De Pont is the museum of contemporary art in Tilburg. It is named after lawyer and businessman Jan de Pont, from whose estate the museum could be established. You will see works by various artists and three times a year there is a larger exhibition. Even the museum building itself - a former wool spinning mill - is worth a visit with its large bright hall and intimate 'wool lofts'. The visit starts even before the entrance: stroll through the pond garden containing the monumental sculpture 'Sky Mirror' by artist Anish Kapoor.
Forget time while you (re)wander the narrow streets of Tilburg's Dwaalgebied. A place with stately buildings and shops run by quirky entrepreneurs. From the characteristic Vijfsprong, discover Noordstraat, Korte Schijfstraat, Nieuwlandstraat, Tuinstraat and Stationsstraat. Piece by piece they house cosy coffee shops, hip lunch spots and surprising shops. Stroll through the streets and, above all, look up every now and then to be amazed at the beautiful facades in the Dwaalgebied. Oh, and with a bit of luck you will find the Dwalerij. A lively Sunday market with beautiful products from shopkeepers and local makers.
Thrilling roller coasters, wonderful attractions and spectacular park shows. Just a 15-minute drive from Tilburg, you will find the Netherlands' largest theme park: the Efteling. Fun for the little ones, but certainly for adults too. Be enchanted during a walk through the fairytale forest, take a ride through the realm of fantasy in the newest family attraction Symbolica and scream out of joy (or fear) in the roller coaster Baron 1898. Of course, you can also grab a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants. Tip: end the day with the water show Aquanura, the perfect end to a great day out.
On the outskirts of Tilburg you will find a beautiful Trappist monastery: Abdij Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven. Here, centuries-old traditions are still being continued. Values such as silence and prayer are central to the monks. Lovers of special beer beware: the monks at this abbey have been brewing their own Trappist beer - La Trappe - since 1884. The monastery has a beautiful garden, where you can enjoy a delicious beer and local and organic snacks such as Trappist bread, abbey cheese and Quadrupel bitterballs. In worse weather, take a seat in the cosy Tasting Room.
Nature lovers get their money's worth in Tilburg's surroundings. Just a stone's throw from our hotel you will find National Park the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. Perfect for a lovely walk or long cycle ride. Stroll through the varied landscape of grass, marsh, heath and not forgetting... dunes! Thanks to the large area of drifting sand, this park is also known as the 'Brabant Sahara'. Need a break? Picnics are great in this area or settle down for a cup of coffee or a tasty lunch at the various catering establishments. Also fun: Natuurmonumenten regularly organises activities such as a silence walk or midsummer night run in the area.
At Natuurmuseum Brabant in Tilburg, you'll be right up close and personal with nature. Admire the museum's enormous sperm whale, learn all about the Ice Age and take a look at the temporary exhibitions. Natuurmuseum Brabant has been voted the most kid-friendly museum in North Brabant for years. And for good reason! Children can expend all their energy there. Little ones aged 4 to 8 experience the seasons in BOS. And from 8 years onwards, children can even do their own nature research in the OO - ZONE. An outing you can enjoy with the whole family!
At Piushaven, it is not hard to blow with the wind. The city's former industrial harbour now serves as a vibrant living, working and recreational spot. A dynamic part of town where you can hire a boat to discover Tilburg from the water. But where there is also plenty to do ashore. Settle down at one of the waterside terraces, visit the original shops or take a stroll along the harbour, a round trip of about 1.5 kilometres. Moreover, Piushaven is the gateway to Moerenburg. A nature reserve where you can literally leave the tumult of city life behind for a while.
013 is the music venue of Tilburg, its agenda is always well filled with the best parties and concerts. You will discover new music or finally see your favourite band or DJ live! Here you will find everything your young children need to splash and play all day, while you enjoy yourself on the sandy beach.
Tilburg is a city with a raw edge. The best way to discover this is to stroll through the Spoorzone. An area in the middle of the city, right next to the railway station, that is in full development. Much beauty has already been created and, at the same time, there is still a lot of work to be done. That makes your visit all the more interesting. Sophisticated catering establishments blend seamlessly with the rugged, industrial buildings of the former NS workshop. On the spot where train carriages used to be repaired, you now find lifestyle markets, food festivals or a slice of the Tilburg Fair. It all depends on when you walk in. Take a peek at the Hall of Fame: a culture factory founded by Tilburg youths. LocHal opened in January 2019: this beautifully renovated building is now home to the new Library, Seats2Meet and Kunsloc Brabant.
But it doesn't stop here. In May 2019, it opened Doloris its doors: a gigantic maze, where you will be surrounded by art. After visiting this maze, you can take a seat on the roof terrace, with breathtaking views over Tilburg.
During a stay in textile city Tilburg, a visit to the TextielMuseum is a must. This museum has lots to see and do for young and old. Visit the various, changing exhibitions, all of which have a link to textiles. In the unique TextielLab, designers and artists commission textiles and work on innovative products. You can participate in various guided tours and for children there is the activity Speur & Ontdek. Want to roll up your sleeves yourself? It is regularly possible to attend workshops at the museum.
Taste the magic of theatre. With some 350 performances a year, Theaters Tilburg's concert hall, theatre and cosy studio auditorium offer something for every visitor. Here, you are guaranteed a relaxing night out. Within a distinctive programming, the city's stage has plenty of room for cabaret, dance, musical, theatre, pop and classical. Just as colourful as the programme is the special light art work by artist Peter Struycken on the ceiling of the modern and widely acclaimed concert hall. In the crystal-clear space, fluorescent lighting in red, green and blue creates a crazy contrast.
