Swinging at the Dutch Saxophone Festival

In 2014, Fontys University of the Arts organised the first Dutch Saxophone Festival in honour of the 200e anniversary of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. From 6 to 15 January, the second edition of the festival will take place. For eight days, everything revolves around the saxophone: from master classes to lectures on the instrument and, of course, various concerts at different venues. A swinging start to the new year!

The Dutch Saxophone Festival is particularly characterised by the combination of learning about music and listening to music. During the festival, for instance, various lectures and master classes are given by renowned saxophonists and ensembles from all over the world. Main subject teachers from Fontys University for the Arts will also speak.

The absolute highlights of the festival? Those are, of course, the concerts. For instance, the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet will give a concert at philharmonie zuidnederland on Saturday 8 January and RIOT will close the Dutch Saxophone Festival with a closing concert on 15 January in Paradox. You can find the complete line-up on the website of the Dutch Saxophone Festival.

Fun fact: most concerts are free of charge. So: extra fun to visit the festival when you want to get acquainted with the saxophone.
